PACKING AND PROTECTING GOODS AND BELONGINGS

  • Easily breakable items i.e. dishes, china, ornaments etc., should be well protected, using wrapping paper and cushioning, before packing them into boxes. Towels, bed sheets or clothing can also be used as protection.
  • Chandeliers/ large lamps, paintings, mirrors etc. should be packed with care using bubble wrap or corrugated cardboard.
  • All boxes containing fragile items, must be clearly labelled HANDLE WITH CARE/FRAGILE.
  • Furniture with delicate surfaces, such as dressers and tabletops, should be covered with corrugated cardboard or bubble wrap.
  • Cling film or masking tape should be used to attach protective materials.
  • All drawers should be emptied into rental boxes and, if possible, locked. The keys should be taped to the back of the drawers, or somewhere where they can easily be found.
  • Pack mattresses, pillows, blankets etc. into solid mattress bags and bin bags or protect them with other materials to prevent them getting dirty during the move.
  • Clothes on hangers should be packed into plastic bags or appropriate clothing cartons. If plastic bags are used, then 5 hangers per bag is an appropriate amount. Make a hole at the bottom of the bag and thread the hanger hooks through. Carefully seal the bag using tape.
  • Protect plants with bubble wrap and corrugated cardboard.
  • When packing rental boxes it is advisable to leave a 3 cm gap at the top, so that boxes can be stacked. Clearly label each box with the room it is destined for e.g. LOUNGE, BEDROOM, KITCHEN. If the contents of a box are fragile, a label should be written onto masking tape and taped to the side of the box to visibly indicate this.
  • Do not stack more than four boxes on top of each other and, please note that the topmost box is susceptible to wind, rain and tipping etc.
  • Cupboards, large, sharp-edged tabletops and doorframes can be covered with special corner and edge covers that we canprovide by the metre.
  • If any item requires special attention, we must be made aware of this.
Eg.if a sofa bed has a special mechanism or if a marble tabletop is secured with glue or hooks.
  • The average need for rental boxes is 1 box/ square metre (60 m2 = 60 boxes). A rental box will fit approximately one shelf metre of books or 7 files.

AGAINST DAMAGE

  • In order to prevent accidents or breakages, the customer is responsible for packing and protecting all goods and belongings for the removal, unless otherwise agreed. This also applies to the protection of floors and walls throughout the removal, or for other work done during the period.
  • If, during the removal, any damage is caused to the customer's goods or other property, a claim, which also stipulates demands for compensation, must be made in writing within seven ( 7 ) days.
